Clay was traditionally defined as a mineral material, glazed and fired for durability, solid and stone-like. This workshop from Basse explored clay from a different perspective, one where its source was not mineral but organic and plant based. The clay we created and worked with was not fired but was fully compostable. In doing so, we dove into material practices that tied into forest ecologies and non-extractivism.

As a group, for one afternoon we cobbled together new kinds of clay objects that fostered a mindful and sensitive approach towards materiality and making.
